The Zilla Parishad (ZP) 4th general body meeting was held on Wednesday here chaired by ZP president Priyadarshin Biswal.
MP Dr Kulamani Samal, MLAs Chiranjeeb Biswal, Prasanta Muduli and Dr Rajashree Mallick, ZP members, Collector Yamini Sarangi, officials and engineers from different line departments attended.
The meeting took note of scanty drainage system, poor irrigation facility, health service, non-supply of drinking water, distress sale of paddy as well as non-implementation of different poverty alleviation schemes in the district. MLAs Muduli and Biswal expressed strong displeasure citing the low cut drainage system in coastal areas affecting citizens during rainy season regularly. Biswal demanded preparing an action plan on areas prone to severe water logging.
MP Samal blamed the district Health Department for poor service. He raised the issue as to how in some cases, the working doctors are advising to go to nursing home or private hospital for treatment. He also discussed on deficient pipe water supply projects in coastal blocks.
MLA Mallick informed at the meeting that her three kin had been affected by Dengu. While they did not get health service in Tirtol hospital, they had to move to Cuttack.
ZP vice president Lingaraj Swain informed that distress sale of paddy was rampant in Jagatsinghpur district. He alleged that the Civil Supply Department was allowing private parties to sell paddy in Mandis.
ZP member Dipiti Ranjan Kuanra criticised the officers for not implementing ZP meeting decisions and ignoring ZP members in administrative works.
Collector Sarangi assured that the objections revealed by the attending members would be taken up urgently.
